A note from Matt dated 6 Jul 06

Well, it's more sitting around today. We had some classes this morning and now just doing barracks maintenace. There is a little rain outside but nothing to kep us inside. Oh well, it gives me a chance to do a little writing. I got a letter written to Dave and Kristen. I forgot to tell you my nickname by one of my DS (drill SGT.) is the "Smart Private". He uses me to answer the stupid questions people ask. Its kind of funny. I think he has a lot of respect for me. I've been avoiding the PG role because its just a lot of baby sitting. Im 4th squad, squad leader. That's plenty of responsibility for me. We fianlly met our other DS, he's pretty hardcore. He is definately fair though. If we follow instructions we mon on. If we don't....let the smokings begin. The Sargent Major just poked his head in our room, before we could get to our feet, he told us to carry-on. I think he's just checking things out. Nice guy though. These first few weeks are torture. They could make this an 8 week program. We are doing an awful lot of sitting around. Next week we should be hitting Victory tower for some reppeling etx. Then a few days after that the gas chamber, Yeah! We got a little extra time for shoer and personal time tonight. Our new DS is pretty cool. We got to da lot of different stuff tonight. He had us in formation on one side of our barracsk and then gave us 30 secs. to get to the other side back in formation. We did this in ACUs and with weapons. When we didn't get it done, we did overhead presses with our M16s and sid et sid epasses. It was the frist stuff that has taxed me. I definately hit failure on the overhead presses. If feels good though. Wll, thyre calling for lights out so time to get some shut eye. Im looking forward to getting some mail this week. I hope you guys are havng fun. I wish I could be there. I hope Matt enjoyed his h2o rocket, Ill write more on Sunday.
